Then this isn't a hot start problem. I don't know about the water in 
the gas possibility, but is there any chance that your gas tank 
overflow hose is broken? If so, then this will let a LOT of water in 
the tank if you drive on wet pavement.

The loose wire theory is probably the closest, but anything's 
possible at this point.
