[T3] FI to Carbs by PO not running right.
<x-flowed>My son has a 68 squareback he is working on. The motor had a knock when
we got it. He and a friend, put my good 71 squareback engine in it.
This engine had FI when I hit a tree, but had less than 20k on it from
the original owner who had the builder replace every thing in the Long
block, balance the engine and it ran great. After that it never had
anything but Mobil One in it. I kept using because that's what they
started it on.. It has set up in my shop for several years, covered up.
They swapped every thing from the 68 that it had, but still used the
cooler and o-rings from the 71. It has 32 pdsit-2 and 3 on the different
banks from a older Type 3. He has rebuilt one carb but cleaned both of
them. The timing was set, New plugs, valves adjusted. He says it sounds
good but is only running on two cylinders. the 3, 4 bank. They have
pulled the plug wires and only two make a difference. He says that he
thinks it is running hot on the 1,2 bank. He has seen fuel boil on that
side. He has checked spark, but is using it without the cover on the
cylinders to get it running. I said this is not good.
I told him that the 1,2 bank is running very lean, that the fuel does a
little cooling but it will run hot when lean.
I am out in left field... Is this correct. Any one rebuild carbs. Any
Ideas. I am not a dual carb guy. I like FI but it is not on it. It I
have a good understanding of the FI, but the carbs are the SH*&. The car
is not here, it is at my sons house, so I have not seen this first hand.
I will be going there Saturday to check it out and see my 8 week old
grand baby too.
Any one want to jump and tell me what I can check. The Bentley manual
I have, he is using it, but it goes from 68 on which should be FI. I
like the MURR book my it is packed away somewhere. I don't know what
else to check or do. I do have a progressive carb that someone put on
my fastback and it runs ok, so he could use that while we do something
about the carbs.
I could put my original MEGASQUIRT EFI system I was planning to put on
the fastback, but he needs to drive it, cause his 92 TI 16v has some
wiring and dad (me) will need do get it home so I can check it out..
Some thing I know a lot about.
