Lookout Phil - incoming! Wouldn't want to disappoint you. ;-) I suppose there's always an exception that proves the rule, but there's no obvious reason that I can see why new points would cure an uneven idle on an engine that is running well in the higher rpm. A weak (ignition) points spring would be more of a problem at higher rpm; there's not much else that new points would change, apart from maybe a very worn heel on the cam-follower of the points. I had a camper that had a split valve and head cracks - still drove well but two of the cyls weren't firing at idle. Hope that's not the problem. If nothing else seems to work, check the compressions. Nice if it's as simple as a set of points though! Dave.
