Which distributor?

There's no exact length that this should be. That distance is set by the vac 
can and variations in that distance, while small, are completely compensated 
for when you adjust the timing.

Not sure what you mean by bridge to the post, unless you are trying to remove 
the vac can. In that case, it won't matter where you fix it, as long as it 
stays fixed.

That sounds completely normal, but when you suck on the can, the actuating rod 
should pull the breaker plate. You should see something like 1/8" of motion.

I gather that this post is part of a conversation that I missed the beginning 
of. If this is an early distributor then some of my comments would change. If 
you need a new vac can I may have one.
