Dumb: Leaving the fuel pump mounting hole in the case open & uncovered while putting the engine tin on. Dumber: Setting a stainless steel screw on top of the breather where it can (and will) fall down through said open & uncovered fuel pump mounting hole. Dumberer: While realizing that a magnet won't work on said stainless steel screw, attempting to retrive it with a wad of chewing gum on a stick. Which fell off the stick and into the engine. Fortunately I was able to create a happy ending without splitting the case. Pulled the distributor drive gear, fished out the bolt and the chewing gum with custom-made "tools" .. and people tell me that bailing wire serves no good purpose. :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
