[T3] clutch tube broken loose.

[ taking negative steps in getting to the invasion. ]

While my '67 square was in to have the carbs taken care of, I had the mechanic check out some trouble I was having shifting. I thought it was the shift coupler, but it turns out it's both the shift coupler, [ doesn't get in gear sometimes when the car is off. ] and the fact that the clutch tube seems to have broken free.

On closer inspection it looks like the clutch tube might have broken free a long time ago, as there's a hook
in the front that goes over the tube and out through the bottom of the car, and was then coated in something that hides what I assume is a nut there. I can only assume that now with the 1700lb clutch, that the hack is not holding up.

What's the repair for this?

My mechanic says on a T-1 he normally cuts the tube open in three locations and rewelds things and generally beefs things up. but the place he cuts in the back on a T-1 has the chassis number on it and he seemed hesitant about the job there. On top of that the PO glued the carpet down, so we're worried we'lld have to destroy it to get it up.

Are there any alternative repairs other than cutting things open and welding?

If cutting things open is the best option, wha'ts the best practice there.

[ sheesh. can't catch a break with this car, my journey to the dark side of T-3 is being punished. ]
