The commutator had been machined off center by about .030". It was trivial to fix, but it NEVER should have happened. No one with any sense should have turned that commutator with the armature flopping around like that. I sent Mike a generator which I had worked over, and he sent me back his bad one. I really just wanted to see it because I wanted to see what was wrong that had caused him all that trouble. I was very surprised at what I found, and it had been a genuine Bosch rebuild. It's probably important to understand that Bosch rebuilds are done in a number of places around the US, probably not even by Bosch but under contract to Bosch. I still think they're likely to be reliable, but I AM starting to wonder.... I fixed Mike's bad Bosch rebuild and it's now in my stock. It will be fine if anyone ever needs it. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
