[T3] California dreamin'

<x-flowed>Just returned Monday evening from a business trip to the Monterey Peninsula, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca contained within. While I was out there for work, I did have some Type 3 stuff to take care of. A while back, I had an ad on The Samba looking to trade my NOS Notchback rear panel for a Fastback/Squareback rear panel. I was contacted by Simon DeCasas, who had exactly what I needed, and more importantly I had what he wanted. I boxed up my panel, and took it with me on the airplane as checked baggage. Once at the airport in San Jose, I met Simon at the Alamo Rent-A-Car counter, and the swap took place. In addition to the panel swap, Simon threw in a couple head exchanger to body pipes, a passenger side mirror, a glove box lock, and a tool bag, all in excellent condition. I brought everything with me to the track on Friday, boxed it back up, and FedExed it back to me in Connecticut. The box arrived yesterday in good condition, and now I have a big piece of the puzzle for our Fastback project.

The other Type 3 related portion of my trip? Friday afternoon, we closed up shop a little early at the track, so I decided to take the tour of 17 Mile Dr. About half way through the trip, sitting in the driveway of one of the multi-million dollar beach front home was an early Squareback; dark blue and filled to the windows with stuff. I can't give you more information than that, but it was kind of neat to see it there.

There were also some old buses and a couple bugs, but thats not Type 3 related, so...
