Re: [T3] Stock muffler repairs made.

<x-flowed>Hey Dave,
First (and this applies to everybody), no need to email me and the T3 list...just the T3 list will do :-)

Second, FLAPS = Friendly Local Auto Parts Store. I simply measured the OUTSIDE diameter of the pipes that were welded on by the PO and it was 1 5/8" (a standard size thank goodness!). So I went to my FLAPS and looked for two bolt exhaust flanges that had an INSIDE diameter of 1 5/8", thus they would slip over the pipes making the weld job easier. The particular brand was BugPack. I did a quick search at CIP and came up with this:

I bought a four pack of 1 1/2" I.D. (Inside Diameter) flanges just in case. They would need to be butt welded to the pipes, requiring a magnet or clamp to hold them but would still work. I didn't use them but have them for another engine, another time.

Don't forget to buy the proper sized gaskets ;-) Oh yeah, the metal flanges weld right on! I have a home MIG welder.

Hi Toby

I too am repairing the stock muffler on my Notch and enjoyed looking at your work. Can you tell me about the flanges you made. Can you buy these and then just weld them on or do you make you own? It seems a much better solution that the slip setup that is stock with these cars.

By the way, what does FLAPS mean? I was reading your comment about getting the 8 x 11 mm nuts and you said that you got them at FLAPS.
