I eagerly await your considered opinion.... I've never had one of these apart, but my impression is that one end of the pin is knurled and that you have to push the pin out from the other end. I think the knurl is on top, so that oil can get around it when you oil from above. I've never worked on 3-bolt hinges before, but the topic comes up here frequently. I guess they were used for all the notches, not just the early ones. I'm surprised to see that you have one of each, however. I had assumed that cars with 3-bolt hinges had them on all 4 hinges. For those who are familiar with these: Is David's photo normal, other than the broken parts? As for the welded holes, a welder is a wonderful tool, but once some people learn to use one they tend to assume that it's the perfect repair for everything. It looks like parts of those hinges have some brazing material on them. If so, you won't be able to weld anywhere near there. You'll have to get rid of any nearby brass or copper before you try to weld. I also see that these bolt holes aren't countersinked like the later 2-bolt hinges are. What kind of bolts did these doors use, and are they all this way? -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
