Re: [T3] more wiring issues

Sorting out the wiring is kind of interesting ... The shell that I want to wire appears to have had the push switches because it has a slot rather than individual holes for the windscreen and headlight switches. Anyone got a push switch? I don't have one. What I do have is two different windscreen wiper switches, one with a single pull action and the other with a two dent rotary action. They both have a central plunger for the windscreen washer. I've looked at the California Import parts online catalog and there seem to be many similar switches. Any suggestions on which way to go? Maybe the push switches were not that good.

The pushbutton switch units are relatively hard to find in good working condition, but they're out there. Expect to pay $75 and up for a used one. They've always been somewhat problematic. VW discontinued the pushbuttons during the 1964 model year and offered a conversion kit for retrofitting later style push-pull switches for the lights and wipers using a mounting plate. These plates are also kind of scarce but it's fairly easy to make one of your own from aluminum stock. The push-pull wiper switch is the one you'll want to use, it was the replacement introduced in 1964. The light switch is a fairly easy thing to find if you need one -- someone on the list will surely have one.
