The pipe with the rubber valve on it was last used in '67. Your '69 should have the pipe that mates to the filler pipe. The early down pipe has a ~3mm hole in the side of the pipe just above the bottom. The rubber valve has a bump there, in its ID that locks into that hole. If you don't have that hole, then you have the later pipe, which is different in other ways, too. I don't think there would be any problem with using the early pipe with the rubber valve on your car. Just make sure that you actually have the valve there. I think it can be useful to keep dust from getting back up inside the engine. If you already have the '68-71 breather box and pipe, I'd try to find the correct filler pipe to go with it. > I think the engine mounts came from you, didn't they? Why else would I mention how nice they looked? ;-) The correct way to do this is to just measure from the tranny case center line out to each wheel bearing housing. I couldn't tell how badly the tin was out of position, so I just thought it might be worth mentioning. Hopefully, this is a non-problem. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
