[T3] Steering Wheel Question

<x-flowed>Let me start by saying hello the everyone.  I recently purchased myself a 
nice '69 Squareback thats fortunately in pretty good shape but still needs a 
little TLC due to previous owners lack of upkeep.  One of the first 
non-performance related issues I'm trying to tackle is replacing the 
aftermarket aka ugly steering wheel with an origincal one.

I purchased one from a guy parting a 69 squareback and I have recently tried 
to install it but it did not fit.  I removed all of the aftermarket wheel 
and had it down to the spindle right after the turn signal housing but it 
appears that the spindle / cog that the wheel is suppose to fit onto is 
slightly larger than the opening in the steering wheel.

Did they make different size steering wheels?  The one I got is supposedly 
from a '69 and its the style with the horn bar not the horn circle.

Any ideas?

Also, I picked up the bentley manual and also the How to keep your VW alive 
books, do you all have any other suggestions for reference materials?
