There's really no difference between the 2 types of trannies. The differences
that do exist are the shift rod (the dimple is on the bottom for a t-3), and
the nose cone due to the t-3 using a different mount. There might also be a
gearing change, but I think most of the swing axle trannies used the same gear
ratios. Other than those things, they're interchangable. Now if you were
swapping the complete trans with the axles and tubes, then you'd find a few other
differences between the 2 trannies (t-3s use long axles with longer splines than
a t-1 does). Your parts guy probably already had his clearanced long ago, and
probably forgot about it. I hope this helps.
