No, you don't need to pull the bushing to bolt the automatic starter up.
The automatic starter will bolt up to any air cooled tranny 6V or 12V,
but it won't work with the 109 tooth flywheel of the 6V engine.



I knew there was a difference between the 6V and 12V flywheels, but I thought it had to do with the 180mm vs 200mm diameter and thus the different number of teeth. My 66 has a 200mm flywheel for sure since that is what we bought when we swapped the clutch in Hershey. I also have a vague recollection of a conversation in our garage Russ while changing out my starter bushings that my flywheel was some kind of transitional thing and could be changed more easily since it was 200mm.


I could be completely mistaken about the whole thing too. <G>
