So my questions is, can I replace these paper gaskets without pulling
the engine trans? I realize I would have to break the gasket to get it
around the axle, but figured if cut them neatly and put all the cuts at
the very top of the joint (well above the fill level of the trans) and
put a dap of gasket sealant on the joint I would be OK.
Anyone see any issues with this approach? Anything I need to watch out
for when replacing these? I seem to remember reading about making sure
the stack-up is right for some clearance issue or another. Would
replacing these gaskets effect this? I was careful to keep the gaskets
all in the same spot when I disassembled the axle tubes to replace the
boots.
BTDT..... :=} You might have to take the bolts out of the rear cross member mounts, and the rear engine hanger. To raise the engine and tranny up enough to get the flanges loose, and clear the frame horns.
OK, I can manage getting the flanges clear.
Thanks for the reply Russ.
