[T3] Leaking Swingaxle

<x-flowed>Sophy is running good and I am enjoying talking her to shows and cruising in her this summer. Nice to not have any major projects to do with her this summer.

I do have annoying leak that I would like some advice on. I get a drip or two from the trans every day. It is a 66 swingaxle. The axle boots are new and not the split variety. The drips come off the bottoms of both side covers. I believe it is coming from the joint between the side covers and the trans. I had these apart when I replaced the axle boots with OEM style ones. I reused the old paper gaskets in this joint, but without any kind of gasket sealant or anything.

So my questions is, can I replace these paper gaskets without pulling the engine trans? I realize I would have to break the gasket to get it around the axle, but figured if cut them neatly and put all the cuts at the very top of the joint (well above the fill level of the trans) and put a dap of gasket sealant on the joint I would be OK.

Anyone see any issues with this approach? Anything I need to watch out for when replacing these? I seem to remember reading about making sure the stack-up is right for some clearance issue or another. Would replacing these gaskets effect this? I was careful to keep the gaskets all in the same spot when I disassembled the axle tubes to replace the boots.

Thanks for the help.
