I took the 71 up to the lake this weekend with the boat behind it and it ran great with its old 71 injection system back on it, but I have noticed lately that the low end is not so good... especially when leaving the boat launch in first gear with my foot to the floor just to get it up the incline. at first I thought maybe it was that the 71 system is not as good at the low end... but years ago when I did a valve job on this engine I noticed the same lack of low end, the heads had about 60K on them and that the intake valves had alot of carbon build up under the valve head (not on the port as in Russ' picture). New valves brought the low end pep right back! Now its 50Kmi later and no low end again... so maybe its carbon again? Top end is sure there but below 1800 or so, blah! Anyone know of a carbon cleaner that is actually effective? something I can add to the gas? My old boss at the garage suggested Marvel mystery oil and once a year I have gone that route just to satisfy him but I dont think (and am not surprized) that its working. Im heading up Mt Washington in NH with it Saturday... Hope my clutch doesnt end up looking like the Crates :) Keith Keith Park Top Notch Restorations topnotch@nycap.rr.com 71 Squareback 65 Notchback "El BajaRojo" 65 Squareback "Eggcrate" 87 Golf 88 Rx7 10th Anniversary "Rextur" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
