Re: type3-d Digest V2005 #52
<x-flowed>Lori=> So you guys think it needs to be rebuilt?
Even if the diagnosis isn't perfectly clear, with that much mileage on
the motor it's gonna be time soon anyway, and it's better to pull it
apart before something really gives way. So yes.
The thing is, if this is the first rebuild, you have the opportunity to
get a really good result, better than if it's been messed around with
before. You'll want to take it to someone who really knows what they're
doing and appreciates an unmolested motor. A cheapo crate-motor
substitution would be a shame in this situation, so if you can save up
some bread it'll be worth it. You've probably got a little slack, but I
wouldn't take it on the highway with a rod knock, you risk seizing it up
and causing all sorts of damage.
Putting whatever modern equivalent of Motor Honey in the crankcase won't
do you any real good, and could mask some of the noise while the motor
disintegrates. I'd recommend against it.
