My 65 Notch is like this right now. I removed those pieces when I cleaned and
painted the surrounding tin. I think it looks better without it, and I didn't
notice any change in the harmonics either. I guess it really depends on
whether you want to install the old pieces, or leave that nice shiney paint (that
cleans up very easy). I hope this helps.
