[T3] Strange VW ad campaign
<x-flowed>So, there's this ad campaign- don't know if it's just the regional VW
dealers association or national- on the radio. The ad campaign has been
playing up that this is the last year of the Mk4 Jetta, and it's
destined to be a classic. Asinine, sure. But in a recent ad, it starts
off something like this:
"A 1970 Fastback sold for $2000 back then. Today, in mint condition,
that car sells for 3 times that much"
Anyway, it got my attention. While the concept of the ad campaign is
dumb (I don't think today's Jetta could be kept drivable for 40 years),
props to the ad agency for invoking the name of the Fastback, and other
cars (the ad mentions the Karmann Ghia as well) in VW's history. VW has
notoriously been reluctant to embrace its history, and well, this was
kinda neat.
