It's interesting how the US market seems to have gotten strange product names for a lot of VWs, which eventually reverted back to the "real" names used in other markets. It seems those names were used as a kind of marketing tool to try and increase sales.


The *reverse example* for that is the Jetta, which is on its third name here in Germany. It's seen as a stodgy old peoples' car, and the name changes were probably done to try and shed that image. Not so in the US, where the Jetta continues to be the best seller in the lineup...
