Re: [T3] That exhaust from CIP

<x-flowed>Sound interesting. Could you snap some pics of the adaptation and how the installation looks?

I said I'd tell what happened with the "stock-like"
exhaust that CIP sells. As someone else noted, it
does look like they simply made adapters for a Type IV
Bus muffler. The two adapters bolt directly to the
rear heads and the J-tubes. A slip-fitting is used on
the J-tubes rather than a compressed donut fitting as
on many aftermarket headers. Once these are in place,
any old T4 Bus muffler should bolt on, and it looks
like that's what they provided here. Indeed, it looks
like a most 914 mufflers would bolt on, too.

No small HEs, just the big ones. You need some cheesy
accordion tube to connect the fan housing to the big
HEs, just like on a set of "headers". The tube that
came with the kit has too small an ID to fit, so I'll
need to find something else. I simply blocked off the
fan housing openings for now.

Aside from the problem with the HE tubes, the kit
seems decently made, and at $130 isn't all that
expensive. It's pretty quiet, and went on very
easily. It fits very well, with lots of clearance
around the rear apron, and it doesn't look like
anything would drag unless you have the car lowered
quite substantially. The first thing to touch down
would be the seam on the muffler itself. They provide
you with all gaskets and hardware needed to install
it. You'll need to coat or paint the system, as it's
only covered in high-temp primer, as delivered.
