Then I suggest you have a look at a wbx and type 4 engine again, Jens.
The wbx is clearly a type 1 engine that has been converted for water
cooling, and increased displacement. The certain give-away is the
location of the fuel pump mount, which is located on top, which is next
to the distributor on the wbx and type 1, and to the side, below the
distributor on the type 4.
Have a look at the pictures on this page:

What you see here is a wbx engine being modified for air cooling. Notice
the details around the mentioned fuel pump mount etc and you will
clearly see that this is a type 1 engine, not a type 4.
