All seems to be working OK - pulls well and returns 34mpg Imp (27 US) on a trip, so I'm sure it's OK, but I've not bothered to pull hoses off to check it loses the retard. Factory timing is TDC with hoses on for engines T069001 - T1009829, see factory service data at http://www.hallvw.clara.net/type3ign.htm Yes, it makes it much easier to adjust. I wonder why they do it hoses off for the FI version, which appeared the next model year. Luckily I picked up a new 205T years ago, so I've got what I need if there's a problem. Dave.
