The '71 Twin carb has a similar dual vac set-up, but no complications to timing
procedures - hoses stayed on and timed at TDC.

Yes, on the FI because the rpm affects the advance, if you get the engine
hunting, the timing changes to aggravate it.  Once set right, I have no problems
with either FI or carbs with twin vac. (Oh, I think I should not have said that,
just in case!).
