When you get to looking these cases over carefully you will note all kinds of 
marks on them. Have you found the marks that prove that your 2 halves are 
mates?

I think they are just inspection marks. Possibly the initials of the inspector.

It was the 111th engine built for a '73 FI M236/M239, those were the cars with 
EGR, I believe.
