You can make a blank flange, or VW sells them. Realistically I'd only need to block off the orifice coming out of the HE if I were to eliminate the filter. What I think I'm going to do for now is assume that the EGR system is either functioning, or if failed, is failed in such a way that it's NOT sending any appreciable amount of exhaust into my intake. Everything else seems to be sealed and intact, so I won't mess with it until such time as it is reasonable. Now, I did manage to find an EGR pipe on ebay (I mailed the list out before about this) and it's the original style that's a solid pipe from end to end. I presume VW changed the design of this pipe later to have a flex in the middle because there may have been alignment and torsion issues, leading to pipe failure. I've compared it to the remains of the old pipe, and it seems that if I cut out a section about 1.5" long more or less in the middle (using the original pipes as a template) I can duplicate the design. Should I do this? I'm also going to need to source the gaskets. They're NOT the same as Beetle heat riser gaskets, and I have yet to find make-your-own exhaust gasket paper. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
