It's a combination of the dirt/oil that gets thru the air cleaner, plus the EGR and the crankcase breather components. > Right now, I'm hoping that it's from a variety of sources: the cyclonic > air filter, the fact that the breater tubes from the crankcase vent were > a bit kinked and possibly not breathing right, and that the carbon was > coming from the EGR. The EGR connection on my '73 is actually disabled, because the filter rusted away, so I don't use that passage anyway. I suspect that a lot of what you find there just comes from the same source as the crud above. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
