I've had a couple of seat-back springs break on two different cars (both '71 I think) - on the seat back shoulder; the end usually pushes out through the fabric to tell you it's broken! This is on the low-back (UK) seats of course. Oddly, both of these cars had an identical small crack in the same place in the speedo plastic 'glass', just near the centre trim disc. I also found another similar age speedo that had done the same - also marked 04-'71, ISTR. Dave.
