I might need to shorten a line here and there. The biggest problem was with the cold. In my unheated garage, the rubber was pretty stiff, so it tended to kink at tighter loops, so some of the loops are a little larger than I'd like. >Where did you find new grommets that large? > > > Lowes, in the hardware aisle. They have the bins of random crap which I love to check out and make a mental note of the existence of random bits. The ones I bought were 1/2" ID and nearly 7/8" OD. 1/2" OD is a little too snug around the 5/16" rubber hose (I had to lube the hose up with a little soap first), and the 7/8" OD (this is the overall OD, not the seating OD, which is about 3/4" on the little mounting plate) is also a little too small to fully seat on the plate. I would opt for whatever the next size up is- probably 9/16" ID and close to 15/16" OD. Next time I go to lowes I'll bring my vernier calipers with me. >The steel lines stick out the rear only about the same amount that >they stick out the front. > > Ok, so we're talking about 3' per side then. >The late boxes are filled with a kind of grease, and it is common for >them to leak a bit and look like this. I'll probably wipe down some of the excess, if for no other reason than it being something for me to brush against when I slide under the car. :) >When I add grease to these, I use a MoS2 >filled grease for the best wear protection. > > > I've been using Valvoline Durablend for wheel bearings of late, which has MoS2 in it- though I may switch to Valvoline SynPower.
