Early type 4 calipers, up to the last month of '72 or so, are the same as late type 3 calipers. I'm guessing that they have the compensation pins in them. Late in '72, type 4s got slightly different calipers which look almost the same as the early ones, but they will accept pads that are thicker. Those late calipers have longer pistons, and they take a different rebuild kit with a different boot to handle the extra piston travel. I'm guessing that THOSE calipers don't have the compensating pins. I have rebuild kits AND the correct pads for those late type 4 calipers, too, if anyone needs them. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
