What is the use of using synthetic oil if you change it so often? One of the selling points of synthetic is it doesn't break down as fast as regular oil. So why change it as often? To me this is a waste of money to change it so often especially if you run an extra filter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rich & Nicole (Daughter), Orange County, CA 70/71 SquareBack 1600 FI MT http://community.webshots.com/user/schlegelr ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -----Original Message----- From: Russ Wolfe [mailto:russw@classicvw.org] Sent: Friday, August 19, 2005 12:06 PM To: Type3 Subject: Re: [T3] synthetic oil and oil changing for dummies I use 10w-30 Mobil1 in my '71. No full flow filter, just the strainer. I change oil every 3000 miles same as before. I use 10w-30 Mobil1 in my commercial 18hp lawn mower, with full flow filter, and change oil and filter every 50 hours of use, or in the fall which ever comes first. I use this with a 4ft wide snow blower in the winter. This engine must start, even when it is -20F, and run when it is as hot as 100F. I have never had to add oil between changes.
