Such Neglect!  tisk tisk ;)

I do my plugs every 15K, as the book reccomends, the the edges of the center
electrode are a bit rounded but the gap has never really opened up much.  I
suspect your plugs have been in there 60-80K mi!
   Ive pulled plugs on a couple badly neglected GM cars and they looked as
you described, and were talking that kinda mileage that they'd been in
there... the HEI GM systems were very resilient to .100 gaps!
    I had one of the resistor ends burn through the side and open up once,
it was very evident on damp mornings.
