It was the proverbial little old ladies car that was only driven to church on sundays. Then the first time the engine was really warmed up, all the sludge came loose, and plugged the screen. A couple years ago, I bought 8 VW engines from a guy. Every one had a rod out. Every one had the screen plugged sith sludge. The screens looked like they had not been out in a long time. It doesn't take that much more to clean the screen. In fact, towards the end of US air cooled production VW quit putting a drain plug in the plate. This forced people to at least drop the plate to change oil. -- Russ Wolfe '71 FB AT '66 FB MT '64 T34 (not running) '65 T1 (not running) '05 KIA Sorento SUV russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
