I use the same grease that I use on the front axle beam. It's just a good lithium grease with a moly disulfide additive, which makes the grease black.. The moly is probably not necessary, but I think it probably helps. > The elfrink also says to check the bushing size with a plug gauge I > don't have anything like that, is there an alternate adequate > inspection? There's no easy way to check it unless you have a new bushing and can make a plug to fit it and then use that plug as a gauge. This is all easy if you have a lathe. If you don't, you should probably just find someone who already has the tools. My '72 had the same problem. I found that the bushing had been worn completely thru on one side. Once I got it out I found that it was no longer a ring; it was a "C." Replacing it made a HUGE difference. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
