That's the problem reading the manuals - just cross-checked with the parts book and you're right, it's just a metal bush from '65. I wonder why the 68-on Bentley still shows plastic sleeves in the upper beam if they aren't there? Good news for welding though - there seems to be a housing for the torsion arm inside the beam outer housing. Should make it easier for welding up the casing. It might make sense to remove the other torsion bar in the lower housing. Is that the one that rusts out first? I've two here that look fine on the upper but are through on the top surface of the lower. Dave.
