Next time I go out there, I've going to see if I can actually fish the parking 
brake cable out of there before heating the drum. Maybe I can just save the 
cable, or maybe I can reach in there with a long screwdriver and push the 
release lever back a bit more to make sure it's fully released.

As for the adjusting stars, I didn't even consider trying them. After all this 
time there's no hope of getting them to move. OTOH, I was the last one to 
service them, and there's SOME chance that the anti-seize I always use would 
still be good....
