Hello all... I looked at my muffler-this is what I see: There are two thick walled flared fittings, with large threaded nuts on them. The outer diameter of these is approximately 40 mm, the inside is approx 30 mm. This is where I believe I need the copper exhaust gaskets/kind of like a copper crush washer. There are two more thin wall flared fittings, these are approximately 43 mm in diameter. Then there is one flared hole (exhaust/tailpipe port) this is approximately 47mm in diameter. There is a sticker on it that says: Lange Nr 2082-50 341-251-061 B Made in Germany It also has stamped in the metal some stuff-but what appears relevant is the Aug 1964 stamp. This was sold to me as NOS. According to one of my parts books this muffler is for a dual carb 1500s or 1600. Also according to my parts book I need a 341 298 003 (installation kit for 341 251 051/061 B muffler). I imagine this is a thing of the past, right? Does anyone know all the little parts in this kit-and able to supply me? I don't notice any crossover of the tubing inside. It looks like the all the exhaust goes in the 4 holes(intake), and there is but one exhaust hole. Not sure if that makes sense...but the exhaust gases go in the 4 holes, than out the 1. Jim-are you planning on making these exhaust gaskets soon? ie should I bother waiting for this? Russ-as for using a thermocouple, is that the thing used on gas hot water heaters? Isn't that a long piece of copper-how do you get the "ring" effect, or is that not so important? Thanks for helping with this from me and my neighbors-as I'm sure I scare the sh** out of them when the sucker backfires...(or should that be blower) -kevin '71 sqbk '65 kombi somerville, ma ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
