So, when I bought my fasty, it started hard, and I may have figured out a while why. The EGR pipe completely rotted out at the EGR end- pipe rotted off the flange. So... I had what amounts to something of a potential vacuum leak. I'm betting that's a good chunk of my problem- vacuum leaks. I had been thinking about removing the EGR, but I'm going to wait until I pull the engine someday, since it's really in a pain in the butt location. In the meantime, I bought on eBay, of all things, a Type 3 EGR pipe. It looks right, except that mine has a length of rubber hose where it goes over the intake runners, while the eBay model is solid. Anyone know more about these EGR systems?
