Yeah, I've never worked with the early heads. I actually have a set of these 
NOS head seals in a plastic bag with the VW part # on them, though. They came 
in a genuine VW gasket set I bought in about 1970 and never knew what those 
parts were. Anyone need any?

Did the adapter require the 3 special spacer washers between the case and the 
adapter (like the early one-piece cooler) or was the adapter bolted right down 
to the case (like the late one-piece cooler?)
