I avoid taking the caliper halves apart, but only because it's an extra step
and it's impossible to remove pistons once this has been done. The calipers you
have here are the good OE style calipers, so they are worth rebuilding. They
will have 42mm pistons, rather than the 40mm pistons that come in the currently
available type 1 calipers. You have at least 1 piston that will probably need
to be replaced; I can't tell for sure, but it looks like there are deep rust
pits in its side. I should be able to replace it with something that is used
but much better.

You must have missed my post a couple of months ago about the pump I finally
made which will get ANY frozen piston out. ;-)

Did the bleed valves come out okay? That can be the hardest part, and is the
only reason that I would take a caliper apart.

The original 68-9 MC has an aux cylinder underneath it. These are best
discarded and replaced with a good later version. Yours is clearly a 72-3
version, but I can't tell the brand.

If it is an ATe MC then the caliper kit is still available for it. If it is a
FAG, then it can be rebuilt if the rear piston is machined to take the ATe
seal. I can do both, but I charge more for the FAG MCs because of the extra
labor. They are $45 or $50 to rebuild.
