JimA=> Steve, I suspect that your lower outboard holes are => actually there, but that you've never seen them Jim, I actually took apart every nut, bolt, screw, nail and glue joint on that car and did a complete restoration. No, I didn't miss anything while it was nothing but bare metal, including welded-up holes. Yes, some cars have had lap belts installed. But I know Karmann didn't do it, and since the lower points had to be in the pan rather than the body, and all the pans were made by VW, I'm confident that VW didn't either. There isn't even a reinforcing piece there that might be prep for an optional belt point. Bear in mind that US specs were of no consequence for Type 3s before '66, and at that time having stock belts was a new idea. => has your pan been replaced? My car is fully documented since manufacture and all numbers match. I really do not understand this continuing skepticism. The early cars are German, *not* American! They did things differently then.
