Jim is so right on this. A lot of the cars (not all of them) there had been
"cosmetically challenged" before the Invasion. I know for a fact that 2 of the
3 Notches (mine included) had seen some metal work done to them just to keep
them around. Keith and I both had photo albums out showing the repair process
done to our cars. In fact, I got more questions about some of the work I had
done to mine, than I got about anything else on the car. Most of those who
looked thru my collection of photos, couldn't believe it was the same car, until
they got toward the end when it started to match the color it currently is. The
fact that "piglet" was there reminded many of us what our restored cars used
to look like. What I mean by that is, we all started with something less
desireable (the Cali and PNW people would have ran away from), and turned it into
something really nice.
But more importantly, meeting the people behind the screen names was the big
deal. Meeting Jim Adney, Dave and Anne Hall, Keith Park, Brian Fye,and ALL the
others there was the important part. Listening to Anne's accent was very
cool. Meeting Ron Mann was a true high point, and him letting both John L. and my
wife drive his 19,000 mile Squareback was a very cool experience, concidering
we had only met a few days prior. And now having met those listee's that
attended, I now see a face to go with that screen name. I know my wife enjoyed the
Invasion weekend, as she shot 5 rolls of film. : ) Just something to think
about, as 2006 is coming.
