[T3] Dave and Matts Notch update - just went sideways, again

Well, once again things have gone astray with this project. And to be 
honest, I am not sure that I should continue. It might be easier to 
look for another whole car that actually works. We dismantled then 
engine, some photos at

AS you can see from the last pic, the case itself is rotten. It seems 
that having a puddle of water in the case for some years has a kind 
of dissolving effect on the case. You can see the bolt that holds the 
oil screen and drain pan in place. The case itself is rotten around 
this opening. And so now I'm looking for a case -so much for 
preserving the numbers.

Of course, we do have a type 4 engine but then I need a new tranny 
and an IRS rear end. We have some of that stuff, like the rear end 
from the new pan, but then we would need to fabricate the engine 
mount at the rear.

Let's review - the pan was rotten but I got a newer one that looks 
good although I have to modify it to take the stick shift because it 
was from an automatic. The body turns out to be very rotten along the 
bottom but Steve has cut up a good one and will send the metal but 
there will be lots of welding and fabricating. Now the engine case is 
hooped along with one sleeve if not more ...

What do you think? Should I carry on or try to sell this stuff? Sigh 
... feelin' blue. Maybe I'll have a beer.
