That case originally came on a FI 1970 type 3. That doesn't tell you anything 
for sure about anything other than where the CASE was first used. 

The engine you have could be a perfectly good "1972" engine rebuilt with a 
replacement case from an earlier engine, or it could be a transplanted 1970 
engine with a few parts swapped to make it work in your '72. It's also possible 
that it's the complete 1970 engine with parts swapped into the engine 
compartment to make the whole system a 1970.

How many terminals are on the throttle valve switch? 70-1 had 4 while 72-3 had 
5.

'72 is the only year where the distributor has both vacuum advance and vacuum 
retard. (Two vacuum hoses to the distributor.)
