That's a very interesting article. I wonder if the timing curve change
already existed for our engines (in my case it's a "EC" Type 4 engine
with EGR system). My EGR system had been blocked off a while ago by
some PO's technician, probably because the filters have been
discontinued a long time ago. I wonder if there is any true adverse
effect such as pinging.
One way to find out would be to put the timing curves for the
EGR-equipped engine next to the curve for another similar engine
without EGR and compare. It's not clear how much change would prove
that EGR played a role in the advance curve.
