[T3] Engine Case Question
<x-flowed>I tore down the donor engine for Sophy's new powerplant today. This
engine was a mostly complete 12V Dual Port, Dual Carbed engine. It was
obviously built on a late case since it still had the rear engine
hanger bar, has dual pressure relief valves, and has a "U" engine
number.
It had a nice nest on top of the 1/2 cylinders. It is missing all of
the thermostat system, including the flaps in the mag housing. It is
missing a few small pieces of tin, but had the lower cool tin, but not
the center lower deflector between the cylinders.
So my questions is on the case. After stripping it most of the way
down a noticed an odd lump/bump in the top of the case over the #3
cylinder. It was metal and looked like weld. Maybe an inch by an inch
and a half. After splitting the case it is clearly a welded up hole.
You can see a few pictures of it here:

The rest of the case looks really good. There is no other evidence of
it throwing a rod or anything. I haven't measured the case to see if
it has been align bored or not. It doesn't appear to have been decked
or anything.
Assuming the rest of the case checks out OK, any issues or concerns
with using this case for a 74mm or 78.8mm x 90.5 rebuild? I will have
the case prepped for a rebuild including case savers, shuffle pins,
align bore if necessary, decked, cylinder holes opened up, full flowed,
etc.
What would have caused a small hole or crack here?
