The dolly is less expensive than the transporter, but I haven't towed an ACVW for more than 15 miles front wheels down, and that was in-town, 45 mph. I am thinking it would be safer to spend the extra $$ and get the transporter unless anyone here can recommend the dolly and any tips you used to tow successfully.

I towed my '66 about 150 miles on a dolly. Only problem I had, was that
I didn't check the rear lug bolts before I took off. Got about 1/2 mile
down the road, and lost a rear wheel. CHECK THE LUG BOLTS!!!!
Take a small floor jack with you and a 4 way lug wrench. Also a basic
set of hand tools.
Towing a dolly empty can be fun on the way out.
Take an extra tire and wheel if you have one.
