<x-flowed>I ended up finding a rubber electrical bushing with a 1/4" ID and running a piece of tubing through it. With a short piece (just the width of the hose clamp) of tubing on either side clamped in place, I have a fitting that is flexible, yet won't rub against any metal. I put another in-line shut-off valve on the body side as well.
I can shut off the fuel line, disconnect the tube from the engine side, and remove the engine with ease.
I'll post a pic of the assembly.
